Teens, they snack like no other!
I don’t think there is not an hour that goes by where one of our two is not in the fridge or in the cupboard looking for a snack to eat, that endless “I’m hungry” coming from them as they make the hourly pilgrimage to the kitchen! Although they can both be picky eaters are times, they always manage to find themselves a delicious snack that they like.
Although I am happy for them to eat healthy snacks throughout the day, options seem to run a little low after a while, so we have been on the lookout for a little inspiration. These healthy snack ideas are not just for the kids though, they are perfect for the whole family, especially when you are trying to cut back on junk food.
As an entire family though, we need to look at the types of snacks we are eating and maybe look at making good choices when it comes to the best snacks. Over a long time, we have noticed our energy levels dropping and this is likely to be down to the bad habit of unhealthy snacks that we are picking.
The following snacks we have shared below include some excellent options for giving nutritious foods and helping with the sustained energy levels needed for active teens.
My two would love these, they are huge fans of raspberries. I have never through of adding in yoghurt to the mix though,so need to give them a try. Crisps are always a big hit in this household, however, we know that they are not the healthiest. So this recipe is the perfect alternative option. How clever are these granola cups, perfect to fill with your favourite yoghurt and fruit, Who doesn't love a flapjack and add in honey to give you the perfect post-school snack! Sweet potatoes are my favourite kind of potatoes, we have never tried them like this though and I can imagine they would go down a storm! Trail mix can be adapted to your flavour preference, this is a great idea for those hungry teens! Anything that is no bake is always a winner, sometimes you want a snack you can grab and go and this is perfect. If you ask the kids their favourite snack, they will tell you mozzarella sticks and they would demolish these if I made them as a snack. I have never used pumpkin in muffins before but these look and sound delicious. Our son eats cucumber by the chunk, so he would love these! Bliss balls are a quick grab-and-go, add in a banana for that little sweet addition. Pepperoni pizza is the kid's favourite, so these would be a great snack option. Energy balls are a great snack and the oatmeal will fill them up for a bit longer! I love this idea, of cheese and pastry, it doesn't get much better! Pizza is always a winner but whilst waiting for dinner, you don't want them filling themselves up. These mini bagel bites look fantastic. If you are trying to encourage your children to eat more veggies, these crispy cauliflower bites are the perfect thing to try! Who doesn't love a cake, these can be made to suit your taste preference. I personally love a good coconut cake! My two love watermelon, so this is just a fun way to eat it and a great way to add other fruit in. Nachos are a winner in this house but I love the different approach to this recipe by using tater tots. S'mores, who doesn't love them? I love the fact these ones can be done in the oven. I had never heard of oyster cracker candy until I came across this recipe. It sounds amazing and I can imagine this in a large pot for the kids to help themselves to. If you are after a healthy snack, these roasted chickpeas are the perfect choice. These look really cute and tasty, I can see them being a big hit in our household. Banana bread is a great way to use up the leftover bananas and it is great for a snack or as something to have with their lunch too. Great way to make healthy muffins, the oats are going to be filling too. For those looking to get more veggies in their kids diets, these muffins are the way to go, Granola is a great snack and making them in advance will make sure the hungry teens are fed with minimal fuss.
